You, Handbook EL-505 Injury Compensation, and the Dissenters of Truth

Repeatedly, I come across the issue of the Dissenters of Truth isolating carriers, and talking to them in private without any witnesses. This makes it difficult sometimes(often) because we know what the Dissenters of Truth are doing. Always request a steward/witness to be present anytime management tries to isolate you, this is the only way to have proof of what is being inflicted upon you. This is even more so when it involve an on the job injury. If management refuses to allow you to have a steward, then do not speak, because we know exactly what they are doing. You will be victimized even more by the Dissenters of Truth. In my short time as steward the stuff I have seen inflicted upon an injured brother or sister is insane.

If you are injured immediately report it via the MDD, if you feel comfortable using your phone text then. Undoubtedly, the Dissenters of Truth will call you, because they don’t want proof in the form of text messages of the abuse that is about to be heaped on you. Never answer that call, and text back they need to put everything in writing via text message. As soon as you report your injury to management, call your/a steward, or NALC Branch 231. Get medical treatment immediately. It should take management at most 2-3 minutes to get you your CA-16. Do not let management tell you that before you get a CA-16 that you need to write a statement. Your personal well being is the most important thing, and only a trained medical professional is capable of diagnosing the extent of your injury. You are also allowed to select your own medical provider. I recommend Kaiser at the corner Fresno & Alluvial, if you are able to drive yourself. After that, while you’re waiting to get medical treatment, in the form of a text message to yourself start typing a message laying out what happened. Try using bullet points, as they help keep you on point in a stressful time. Here is the link to file a claim using the online CA-1. https://www.ecomp.dol.gov

Weingarten Rights must be invoked by you, if the Dissenters of Truth try to say it won’t lead to discipline then have them put that in writing, and make sure they sign and date that paper. If it won’t lead to discipline as they claim, then the Dissenters of Truth should have no issues putting that down on a piece of paper. Below is the responsibilities the Dissenters of Truth have to work you within your medical limitations, this is from EL 505.

If the Dissenters of Truth fail to provide you with a job offer, so that you can work within your medical limitations ask for a steward immediately. This is a violation of multiple items, but mainly ELM 546, EL-505, and Article 21. So, when asking for steward time just let the Dissenters of Truth know Articles 3, 5, 15, 19, and 21 are the reasons you need time with a steward.

Be safe, and never forget that you can’t put a time on safety.

Here in Fresno, management types seem to like to complain that some stewards are being “difficult”. To this I say we are the least “difficult” bunch around, if you treat the City Letter Carrier humanely.
