Here is what the section of the bylaws say regarding the office of Vice-President:
Section 2. VICE PRESIDENT The Vice President shall preside in the absence of the President, and in case of death, resignation, disqualification, refusal or neglect of the President to discharge the duties of his/her office. The Vice President shall then perform all duties incumbent upon the President for the remainder of the term of office and shall succeed to the office of President*-subject to Article IV, OFFICERS Section 2. He/she shall draw all warrants ordered by the Branch. The Vice President shall also serve as Ways and Means Chairperson plus other duties as assigned by the President. The Vice President, by virtue of his/her office, shall be a delegate to the State and National Conventions subject to ARTICLE VI, DUTIES OF OFFICERS Section 16E.
*As the office of Executive Vice President does not exist in these bylaws, the Vice President is next in line.
A. The Vice President of this Branch shall be reimbursed for documented expenses incurred in the performance of his/her duties as ordered by the President, in addition to a five hundred dollar ($500.00) per month taxable salary.
That is 19 positions that need to be filled in each branch election, what are you planing to run for? All 19 are important, and it would be great to see candidates for each each of the 19 positions. As I often say be the change you want. Yes, it requires a commitment, but anything and everything that is of any value requires that you make a commitment, right? If you think you may be interested in running, make a call the branch office to request a copy of the bylaws, so you can read them. Come to the meeting, and ask questions. When I have had questions, I have always received a positive response, that’s not say there wasn’t a difference of opinion, but generally my questions are answered. The only questions that I can say that has never been answered is why the branch does not have a liaison officer with Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, someone whose district includes part of Fresno. My question(s) were met with subterfuge and deflection, and that is partially why I chose to run for Vice President. Maybe there is a valid reason, but if there is, why was my question(s) treated with subterfuge and deflection instead of given a honest and straight forward answer? I suspect the answer is because some put personal politics over that of the City Letter Carrier, and members of NALC Branch 231, which is sad.
When we have the representing of the City Letter Carrier taking a back seat to personal politics then I am always going to have an issue. For me, members will always come first, and there are many of my fellow co-workers that will figuratively kick my ass if I ever put my personal politics ahead of the National Agreement and/or the members of this branch. Come to the next branch meeting observe, and question things that do not sound correct to you. That is all I do, and even if there is still a disagreement it is always positive for members to have open dialogue as it improves the branch and makes us stronger.
Have a safe week.
Vote in the poll to the right, too.
Vote Johnson for Vice President in 2024, and Go Go Chiefs!!!!!
